Four members of The Wootton Bassett Arts Festival Committee spent a lively morning meeting people at the Community Forum this morning. The event was organised by the Town Council as an opportunity for local clubs, charities and other organisations to tell the public what they do and also meet each other and exchange views.
It’s amazing how many groups there are in the Wootton Bassett Area organising fun activities for the public’s enjoyment. Here are some details on a few of them we talked to today:
Learning Curve Day Nursery
Most people will have seen the Learning Curve Day Nursery on the Brinkworth Road. The Nursery were keen to promote their “Midsummer Mayhem” event which will include a Fancy Dress Parade, Tractor Rides, Music Bugs, Treasure hunt, Tombola, Barbecue and much more on Saturday 18th June from 12 until 4pm. All proceeds will go to CALM (Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement) so its all for a great cause. If you want to know more you can call 01793 851495 or take a look at their website www.thedaynursery.com.
Jubilee Lake Group
A fun chat was had with Roger Rowthorn of the Jubilee Lake about conservation, butterflies, birds, wildflowers and all things to do with nature. Next time you’re looking for somewhere to go for a walk try the Jubilee Lake and see what you can find! Want to know more, maybe you could help out…then email Roger on bear...@talktalk.net.
Wootton Bassett Camera Club
We had an interesting chat with members of the Wootton Bassett Camera Club while admiring their display of their members’ work. Anyone can join the Camera Club irrespective of experience. The club suspects people may sometimes be reluctant to join in case everyone has a great deal more expertise, a belief they are keen to dispell. Though it is true that being a member of a club does mean that people can learn a great deal from each other. If you are interested in joining contact geof...@btinternet.com or call him on 01793 85143.
Wootton Bassett & District Age Concern
Our local branch of Age Concern is very active with a Monday afternoon Social Club, Tai Chi classe, Thursday Coffee Afternoon and an assisted shopping scheme amongst other things. More information is available from Bill Bliss on 01793 731590.
Purton Theatre Club
Do you love the theatre? This group organises many trips throughout the year to a number of theatres and passes on the reductions from its group bookings to its members. Transport is by coach so you don’t have to drive and can enjoy the company along the way. Contact Cliff or Sue Thomas on 01285 652546 or Val Walker on 01793 771201.
There were many more people to meet such as our local Guide movement, WBLOS and the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust so well worth coming again next year!
